Feeling uninspired

It’s always hard to be inspired in photography and others creative works. This happened to me. I feel uninspired, in fact when I walk through the streets of my town, it all seems the same.

I’ve thought that take a pause is the best thing to do, in fact I’m no more active on the blog because when I start writing after a few words I don’t know what to write. And so when I take photos, I start to take them but after a little bit I get bored.

Here are some things I do to overcome my block and be inspired again:

1. Take a break. I think this is the best way to help  your creativity, so take a break and meditate on your photography, think if to continue the same photography genre or to take another way and also meditate on yourself.

2. Practice other arts. This is an important way to be inspired too. Over photography I like drawing, it’s thanks to drawing that I started shooting street photography because I wanted to give a more realistic aspect to my drawings. Furthermore I like art and artists like Salvador Dalì, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Andy Warhol and others.

3. Experiment. If you practice street photography and get bored about it, try to make new things, for example: if you shot in black and white, start shooting in color; if you shot only people, start shooting urban landscape; if you shot with a digital camera, start shooting with a film camera, and so on.

These are only my best ways to try to be inspired again, if you have others ways to feel inspired again, please leave a comment, thanks.

  1. All good points, and I really like your photographs too. I live in a small city and found I was bored shooting repetitious photographs from the same locations where most people were hanging out. These days I make sure I have a ‘project’….actually a few ‘projects’ going on at the same time. This involves more walking in the suburbs shooting urban landscapes and discreetly and respectfully photographing people who appear to be alone in the city.

    1. Thank you.
Working on a photography project is always a good idea to overcome this block because it forces you to focus on specific subjects and feel always inspired, this is what I’m trying to do and that’s how my ‘Living in the South’ project was born.
      Good luck with your projects.
